On Wednesday, the Sudanese port of Būr Sūdān is set to receive two US warships for the first time in 25 years.

Al-Sudani newspaper quoted a well-formed source as saying that the visit comes within the framework of strengthening and sustaining peace and friendship ties between Sudan and the US, in addition to preserving the security of transport and maritime lines in the Red Sea.

The source added that the visit also aims to strengthen the military relationship in the maritime fields between the two countries.

He pointed out that the visit is the first for the US Navy at the Sudanese ports, in anticipation of a new era characterized by military and political cooperation between Washington and Khartoum.

The source said that the US military attaché arrived yesterday at the Sudanese port to oversee the final arrangements for the arrival of two naval vessels, including a reconnaissance ship, and a warship destroyer that will arrive on Monday, 1st March, and it is expected that it will be received by the American Chargé d'Affairs in Sudan and a number of Sudanese senior officials.
