Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, held a phone call on Friday evening with U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, as part of ongoing consultations on developments in the Gaza Strip.

The call focused on joint efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza based on the elements proposed by the U.S. envoy.

In this regard, Abdelatty stressed the importance of Israel responding positively to the proposed deal in order to de-escalate tensions, save Palestinian lives, ensure the delivery of humanitarian and relief aid, and secure the release of hostages and detainees.

He further highlighted the rapidly deteriorating and catastrophic humanitarian situation, which has reached the point of famine, warning against the dangers and consequences of expanding military operations in Gaza and the continued use of starvation as a weapon.

FM also briefed the U.S. envoy on Egypt’s preparations to host an international conference on early recovery and reconstruction once a ceasefire is declared, in line with the Arab-Islamic plan adopted at the Arab Summit in Cairo last March.

The two sides also discussed developments related to the Iranian nuclear file.

Abdelatty reviewed ongoing efforts and communications aimed at creating conditions conducive to resuming negotiations, bridging differences, and providing opportunities for diplomatic solutions and dialogue.

The goal, he emphasized, is to achieve a sustainable settlement that takes into account the interests of all parties, contributes to de-escalation, restores trust, and fosters a climate supportive of regional security and stability in the Middle East.
