Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stressed today the necessity of getting the Libya crisis to an end via a political solution, calling for dismantling militias and stopping the transfer of foreign armed mercenaries to the Libyan territory.

In his speech during the ministerial meeting of the International Follow-up Committee formed by the recent Berlin Conference on Libya, Shoukry said that Egypt has a firm position on the Libyan crisis, which is the necessity of reaching a political solution that paves the way for restoring security and stability there, and meets the aspirations of the Libyan people.

On his part, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas announced today that the political talks on Libya will begin before the end of February.

In a press conference after the joint committee meeting with the Libyan parties, Mas stressed the importance of adhering to the outputs of the Berlin Conference on Libya, noting that the Coordination Committee on Libya agreed that the UN agreement on the Libyan crisis is "binding".

Furthermore, the German Foreign Minister stressed that the United Nations and international partners will monitor all arms entry paths to Libya, to take serious measures.

Earlier, Al-Arabiya news network quoted sources saying that there were clashes among Al-Wefaq militias in the Libyan city of Gharyan.

On his part, the Libyan army commander, Khalifa Hafter, had confirmed two days ago that there is no going back on the liberation of the capital, Tripoli, and the achievement of the goal set by the armed forces, adding that the talk of a permanent ceasefire and peace can only come after the elimination of armed militias and the expulsion of mercenaries.

Hafter pointed out that "the army has become on the outskirts of the heart of the capital, Tripoli, and will not retreat until Tripoli liberated.

"There is no peace except by disarming the militia gangs and leaving the mercenaries, " he added.

Haftar stressed that Libya will soon be a "graveyard" for all mercenaries sent by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan "to protect traitors and clients", in reference to Al-Wefaq government.

On Friday, thousands of Libyans went out, in Benghazi and other Libyan cities, in massive demonstrations, denouncing Turkish intervension in their country, by sending mercenaries, terrorists and weapons to it, and to declare their support for the army forces in its war to liberate Tripoli from armed militias and terrorist groups.
