Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, affirmed that Egypt’s vision is centered on the immediate cessation of hostilities and acts of genocide in Gaza, with the protection and safety of civilians as a priority.
In televised remarks, he noted that discussions are underway to arrange transitional mechanisms following a ceasefire, emphasizing that Gaza’s administration will be the responsibility of the Palestinians themselves, without any direct external interference in internal affairs.
Regarding Hamas, Abdelatty stressed that its fate will be determined by the Palestinians, pointing out that current discussions focus on forming a transitional committee to manage Gaza, without the movement’s participation, in order to ensure the continuation of essential services and regional stability.
Moreover, FM added that Cairo’s role will be to support the transitional committee and later the Palestinian Authority, underlining the importance of building on the positive elements of U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan, such as unifying the West Bank and Gaza, to secure regional stability and enhance prospects for peace.
Abdelatty also stressed that no displacement of Palestinians will take place, reiterating that the Rafah crossing on the Egyptian side will remain open solely for the delivery of humanitarian aid, not for forced displacement.
