Thousands of protesters have been arrested by US police since the protests erupted over killing a black man by a white policeman in Minneapolis.

The US authorities arrested about 1,400 protesters in 17 states due to the unlicensed protests and riots that erupted after killing George Floyd, AP reported,

The protests left one killed and others injured.

Yesterday, the Russian Foreign Ministry called for an investigation into the killing of American citizen George Floyd.

“We call upon the US authorities to take serious measures to rectify the situation and to return to fulfillment of international obligations, to bring its national legislation into accordance with basic UN principles on the use of force and firearms by law enforcement officers, and, of course, to thoroughly investigate the murder of George Floyd,” the Ministry said in a statement.

The Russian Foreign Ministry indicated that this incident is not the first in a series of abuses and unjustified violence committed by the security services in the United States.

The Pentagon has ordered, on Saturday, the deployment of units of the Military Police in Minneapolis, due to the escalation of protests that have turned into riots, AP reported.

The state of Georgia declared a state of emergency, due to the escalation of protests and riots after killing a black man earlier this week by the police in a brutal manner.

Noteworthy, fierce protests have been raging in Minneapolis since an unarmed black man, George Floyd, 46, died after a white officer knelt on his neck last Monday.

Floyd, allegedly tried to pass counterfeit bills at a corner eatery, was taken by ambulance from the scene of his arrest and declared dead the same night at a hospital.
