Brazilian club Flamengo have announced the surprise dismissal of head coach Filipe Luís, despite the team’s emphatic 8-0 victory over Madureira in the second leg of the Campeonato Carioca semi-final.
In an official statement, Flamengo confirmed that as of Tuesday, Filipe Luís would no longer be in charge of the first team.
The club also announced the departure of assistant coach Ivan Palanco and fitness coach Diogo Linhares.
The statement expressed gratitude to Filipe Luís for his contributions as both a former player and head coach, wishing him success in his professional career.
Despite the abrupt ending, Luís enjoyed a successful spell in charge. Since taking over in 2024, he led Flamengo to seven titles.
In 99 matches under his leadership, the team recorded 62 wins, 21 draws, and 16 defeats, scoring 182 goals while conceding 76.
However, losing the domestic Super Cup to Corinthians by two goals to nil, along with a continental Super Cup defeat to Lanús by a 4-2 aggregate score, may have accelerated the decision to part ways, despite the team’s strong attacking performances.
