Flamengo secured a hard-fought 2–1 win over Mexico’s Cruz Azul at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Qatar, advancing to face Pyramids FC in the semi-finals of the 2025 Intercontinental Clubs Cup.
Flamengo opened the scoring in the 15th minute through Giorgian De Arrascaeta, before Cruz Azul equalized just before the break in the 44th minute via Sánchez.
In the second half, De Arrascaeta struck again in the 71st minute, netting his second goal of the match and securing Flamengo’s victory.
The Brazilian side will now meet Pyramids SC, champions of the CAF Champions League, on December 13.
This fixture marked the official kickoff of the final three matches of the 2025 Intercontinental Clubs Cup, hosted in Qatar during the rest days of the Arab Cup 2025.
Cruz Azul participated as the CONCACAF Champions Cup winner, while Flamengo qualified after defeating Palmeiras in the Copa Libertadores final late last month.
Flamengo’s win sets up a semi-final clash with Pyramids, with the victor scheduled to meet Paris Saint-Germain, winners of the UEFA Champions League, in the final on December 17.
Flamengo recently made history on 29 November 2025, becoming the first Brazilian club to win the Copa Libertadores four times, thanks to a 1–0 victory over rivals Palmeiras, sealed by defender Danilo.
The Rio-based club has also secured qualification for the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup, joining Pyramids, Paris Saint-Germain, Al Ahli Saudi (elite AFC Champions League winners), and Cruz Azul (CONCACAF champions).
