Turkey announced that Finland and Sweden made a progress toward their NATO memberships, according to a joint statement by the three countries on Friday.

The statement came out after a meeting at Stockholm of the Permanent Joint Mechanism between the three countries that was established within the framework of the tripartite Memorandum signed in Madrid last June.

The Turkish delegation consisted of the spokesman of the presidency, Ibrahim Kalin, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sedat Onal.

On the other hand, the Swedish delegation was led by Ambassador Oscar Stenstrom at the prime minister's office and Jan Knutsson, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Finnish delegation included the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jukka Salovaara and the director general of foreign and security policy of the Helsinki Presidency, Petri Hakkarainen.

The statement said: "The Permanent Joint Mechanism welcomed the intensified cooperation at the technical level among relevant ministries and institutions and the progress achieved by both Finland and Sweden in compliance with the memorandum. They decided to continue working further on its implementation."
