Filmmaker Mohamed Diab Contracts Coronavirus

Egyptian director and screenwriter Mohamed Diab announced Tuesday on Facebook that he had contracted the coronavirus.

Diab revealed that he has been infected with the new version of coronavirus for the last two weeks despite being vaccinated.

"I would like to warn those who took the two doses of the vaccine and believe that they do not need to take precautions, the situation is difficult. I consider myself one of the people whose health is good and but I had degenerated," he stated.

The filmmaker noted it will be much more difficult for someone much older than him to contract the virus.

Diab is a screenwriter and award-winning director whose works shed light on the problems of Egyptian society.

He began his career as a screenwriter through the 2007 film "El Gezira" (The Island), which achieved record revenues at the Egyptian box office.

Afterward, the filmmaker penned several popular films including “Badal Faked” and “Alf Mabrook”.

He made his directional debut with the 2010 film "678".

In 2016, Diab helmed his second film, "Clash", which competed at the 69th Cannes Film Festival, and was praised by newspapers and stars like Tom Hanks.
