FIFA has officially revealed “Islana” as the mascot for the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, set to take place in Poland, as part of efforts to enhance the tournament’s visual identity and fan engagement.
According to FIFA, Islana symbolizes the growth of women’s football, embodying creativity, energy, and a playful spirit. The character draws inspiration from Slavic mythology, presenting a lively figure designed to connect with fans and players alike.
A Myth-Inspired Symbol
Islana is based on the легенда of the “Rusalka,” a mythical figure associated with nature, forests, and lakes. The mascot is portrayed as a guardian of the environment with a passion for football, combining agility, speed, and skill on the pitch.
The backstory highlights Islana’s discovery of football after seeing a ball floating across a lake, sparking a lifelong connection with the game. The character is intended to inspire young players and promote joy and creativity in sport.
Tournament Details
The competition will run from September 5 to 27 across four Polish cities, featuring 24 national teams. Islana will play a central role in welcoming teams and fans throughout the event.
