The opening phase of ticket applications for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has drawn unprecedented global demand, with more than 4.5 million fans submitting requests within just ten days, FIFA announced on Friday.
Fans from 216 countries and territories took part in the pre-sale draw for Visa cardholders, making it one of the most in-demand opening stages in tournament history.
Unsurprisingly, the host nations—the United States, Canada, and Mexico, led the way in ticket requests, followed by Germany, England, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Spain, and Italy.
“This is not only an incredible number, it is also a powerful message to the world: the FIFA World Cup 2026 will be the biggest, most inclusive, and most exciting event ever,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino said.
“From Canada, Mexico, and the United States to every corner of the globe, fans are proving once again that football unites the world.”
Following the random selection process, applicants will begin receiving notifications of the ballot results via email starting Monday, September 29.
Successful fans will be given specific purchase windows, with sales officially beginning Wednesday, October 1, subject to availability. FIFA stressed, however, that winning the draw does not guarantee a ticket.
Group stage tickets will start at just $60, with all 104 matches included in the first phase, along with team-specific and stadium-specific ticket options.
Further sales phases are scheduled for October, with early ballot registration opening Monday, October 27.
