The FIFA has dismissed reports suggesting that Iran national football team could withdraw from the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In an official statement, FIFA confirmed that there are currently no discussions regarding Iran’s withdrawal from the tournament, putting an end to speculation that had circulated in recent days.
The clarification comes as Iran has been drawn in the same group as the Egypt national football team for the 2026 World Cup, a scenario that sparked rumors about potential political complications affecting participation.
FIFA stressed that no formal requests or negotiations have taken place regarding Iran leaving the competition, emphasizing that all qualified teams remain part of the tournament as scheduled.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted jointly by United States, Canada, and Mexico, marking the first edition of the tournament to feature 48 teams.
The competition is expected to attract global attention as teams from across the world, including Egypt and Iran, prepare to compete in the expanded format of football’s biggest international event.
