FIFA President Gianni Infantino has congratulated Senegal national football team on winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, while strongly condemning the chaotic scenes that followed the final against Morocco national football team in Rabat.
In a message shared on his official Instagram account, Infantino praised Senegal for their narrow 1–0 victory in the final, describing the triumph as well deserved. He also extended his congratulations to Abdoulaye Fall, President of the Senegalese Football Federation, and all those involved in the team’s continental success.
At the same time, the FIFA president commended Morocco for both its performance and its hosting of the tournament, describing the competition as exceptional. He praised the overall organization of the event and thanked King Mohammed VI for his continued support of football, as well as Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation and a FIFA Council member, for his leadership and commitment to developing the game.
However, Infantino expressed serious concern over the incidents that erupted at the end of the match. He condemned what he described as unacceptable scenes on the pitch and in the stands, criticizing the conduct of some Senegal players, members of the technical staff, and sections of the crowd. He stressed that leaving the field in such a manner and engaging in violent or disorderly behavior has no place in football.
Infantino emphasized that respect for referees’ decisions is fundamental under all circumstances, both on and off the field. He warned that failing to uphold discipline and sportsmanship undermines the very essence of the game and its core values.
He added that players and teams carry a responsibility to set an example, not only for supporters inside the stadiums but also for millions of fans watching around the world. According to Infantino, the scenes witnessed after the final must be clearly denounced and should never be repeated.
The FIFA president concluded by expressing confidence that the relevant disciplinary bodies within the Confederation of African Football will take appropriate action to protect the integrity of the competition and uphold the principles of fair play.
