Filipe Luís is reportedly close to becoming the new head coach of Bayer 04 Leverkusen ahead of next season.
According to reports from Germany, Leverkusen’s management has decided to part ways with current coach Kasper Hjulmand following a disappointing campaign that saw the club struggle for consistency throughout the season.
Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg stated that Filipe Luis is currently the leading candidate to take over at the Bundesliga side and that negotiations between both parties have already begun.
Plettenberg added that Leverkusen have two other names on their shortlist, but the former Clube de Regatas do Flamengo coach remains the club’s clear first choice. An official announcement regarding Hjulmand’s departure is expected once a successor is finalized.
Leverkusen, who won the Bundesliga title two seasons ago, finished sixth in the league standings last season with 59 points.
Filipe Luis previously managed Flamengo in 100 matches, winning 63, drawing 21, and losing 16. During his spell in charge, he guided the Brazilian club to several trophies, including the Copa Libertadores, the Challenge Cup, and the Copa Interamericana.
