The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) (FBI) released a 10-page report to “The Vault”, the FBI’s Freedom of Information Act library, on the death of the rock band Nirvana lead singer and guitarist, Kurt Cobain.

The music legend was said to have taken his own life on April 5, 1994. His body was discovered at his home in Seattle, Washington, at the age of 27. It was confirmed that Cobain had died by suicide. Many conspiracy theories had claimed he was murdered spread shortly after the incident.

The FBI released last month the file on its archives without public notice, which contained letters asking the bureau to reopen its investigation into the musician's death, citing TV documentaries and other speculative media. The letter writers’ names were removed.

The FBI responded to inquiries that it was not in the bureau’s jurisdiction.

“We appreciate your concern that Mr. Cobain may have been the victim of a homicide. However, most homicide/death investigations generally fall within the jurisdiction of state and local authorities,” said one response in the file.

The official added that in order for the FBI to initiate an investigation of any complaint it receives, specific facts must be present to indicate that a violation of the federal law within their investigative jurisdiction has occurred.

"Based on the information you provided, we are unable to identify any violation of federal law within the investigative jurisdiction of the FBI. We are, therefore, unable to take any investigative action in this case".
