"Fawry", an electronic payments company in Egypt, is working with the country's regulatory authorities to recover recently breached, according to a statement issued Sunday.

In an interview with Al-Sharq, Ashraf Sabry, founder and CEO of the company, said, “It is difficult to determine the amount of data that has been encrypted by hackers. Up to 2,030 servers for live operating systems used by individuals and institutions were examined and we confirmed that they had not been hacked.

On November 9, Fawry confirmed that all customers’ financial data was safe and had not been hacked, after many social media pages reported news that its information system had been hacked. At that time, Sabry told Al-Sharq, “Our systems may have been subjected to an attack and we are investigating the matter ... but What is certain after reviewing the systems is that no data was breached.”

Singaporean company “Group-IB”, which specializes in cybersecurity, confirmed that “a separate part of the application testing environment was exposed to an attack earlier, which resulted in the encryption of some files.”

The president of “Fawry” responded to “Al-Sharq”’s question in this regard, saying that the company’s investments in cybersecurity amount to 150 million pounds.

Sabry confirmed that the data that was breached through what is known as “LockBit” may contain some personal data for customers, including names, addresses, dates of birth, and phone numbers, but this data will not affect the safety and security of financial information.

The company indicated in its statement that it had “confirmed that all of the company’s system is free of any indicators or remnants of the hacking process.”
