The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy received the director-general and the executive director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Dr. Ghada Waly.
The meeting included talks about cultural properties and antiquities trafficking, and the initiative of Co-Action Against Trafficking in Cultural Heritage (CATCH).
On his side, Fathy asserted the ministry's interest in enhancing the cooperation with all international organizations concerned with resisting cultural property trafficking.
He also indicated the importance of information exchange, protecting cultural and heritage sites, using advanced technologies in documenting data and organizing training programs for developing the workers in cultural and archaeological scenes.
On her side, Waly said that the UN office is keen on cooperating with various institutions to activate the CATCH initiative to stop all acts of overseas crime, in addition to helping national institutions to adopt new regulations on such kinds of crimes and developing them to resist all kinds of cultural properties and antiquities smuggling.
She also expressed her appreciation for the invitation of Egypt to make use of the initiative as a major channel to fight all acts of cultural property and antiquities trafficking and overseas crimes.
