The basketball match between Al Ahly and Al-Ittihad Alexandria witnessed the fall of a part of the stands at Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall in the Egyptian Basketball Super Cup.
The cameras showed stands falling toward the seats of the Al-Ittihad fans. Some attendees tried to save the situation and keep the audience away from the same place where the stands fell.
The accident resulted in 27 injuries among the fans of Al-Ittihad Alexandria, according to a statement by the Ministry of Health.
Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy commissioned a committee to go immediately to the scene to discuss the circumstances of the accident.
Sobhy directed to review all the details of the accident, to identify the reasons that led to the fall of the iron barrier. He stressed the importance of taking all necessary measures and checking on all the fans who were present during the match.
