The Ministry of Municipality of the State of Qatar, within the framework of its Chairmanship of the 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Food Security and Agricultural Development, hosted in Doha, from 1st to 3rd September, 2025, the meeting of experts from OIC Member States to assess progress on OIC programs towards enhancing food security and promoting sustainable agriculture in OIC Member States.
Specifically, the meeting brought together experts from the relevant ministries of Member States and OIC Institutions to identify progress and challenges in the implementation of the OIC decisions with regard to the establishment of the OIC Food Security Reserve System, developing strategic agricultural commodities, and elaborating OIC food security framework.
Dr. Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo, Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs, in his intervention at the opening of the meeting emphasized the significance of continued evaluation of the various OIC programs in the domain of food security and agricultural development to assess their effectiveness, ensure efficient resource use, and make necessary adjustments.
He also stressed the need for taking practical measures to address the various constraints, that impede the effective implementation of the OIC initiatives in the domain of agriculture and food security. Speaking about the Draft Strategic Plan for Ensuring Food Security in OIC Member States, he underscored that the proposed OIC food security framework aims to ensure food security in Member States through strategies that promote sustainable agriculture, responsible investment, and climate-resilient systems, while also fostering intra-OIC trade in agricultural and food products. In this context, he invited the meeting to focus on validating key policy actions and programmes contained in the Draft Strategic Plan for Ensuring Food Security in the OIC Member States to move the OIC Member States tangibly towards improved and sustainable food security.
