 Experts of Nature Reserves Find Dead “False Killer Whale” Next to Hurghada

Experts of the Nature Reserves have found a dead whale near the beach of a tourist village in Sahl Hasheesh, Hurghada, the capital city of the Red Sea Governorate.

The management of the branch of the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries inاHurghada, the Red Sea, Hurghada has received a notification from the local point stating that the dead whale was found in the marine area of Sahl Hasheesh, Hurghada.

The whale was transferred to the headquarters of the Institute’s branch in Hurghada. A research team was formed to determine the causes of the death of the whale.

Dr. Shawky Elsabea, Dean of the Institute, said that the initial inspection proved that the whale is known as the “False Killer Whale” that whale belongs to the dolphin family; it was named the False Killer because of the great similarity with the killer whale.

Its length is 5 meters and the average of body diameter is about 1.5 meters and it weighs about 3 tons.

Elsabea added that the experts are still dissecting the whale to determine the causes of death.

It was clear from the initial dissecting that the intestine is empty and there are no leftovers there.

He confirms that after the completion of the autopsy, the necessary measures will be taken regarding the embalming of the whale and displaying it in the Museum of Mummification in the Red Sea branch for scientific purposes.
