Experts Identify 15 Key Reforms of Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev

Experts identified 15 most important reforms of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, which contributed to significant changes in Uzbekistan over the past five years.

The period 2017-2021 was marked in Uzbekistan by large-scale transformations initiated by Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Rapid reforms cover all spheres, including state and social construction, judicial and legal system, economy and social sphere, security, inter-ethnic harmony and religious tolerance, foreign policy.

The nationwide movement "Yuxalish" conducted another expert survey to determine the most effective initiatives and reforms that have contributed to significant changes in the country over the past five years.

According to the results of a global survey this year, the TOP-15 key reforms of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, which are of historical importance, were formed. According to experts, the most important initiative of the leader of Uzbekistan is the establishment of good-neighborly relations in Central Asia, the opening of borders and the creation of checkpoints, a constructive dialogue with the countries of Central Asia on all issues without exception.

The full list of the President's initiatives is as follows:

  • Establishing good-neighborly relations in Central Asia, opening borders and creating checkpoints, constructive dialogue with the countries of Central Asia on all issues without exception;
  • Liberalization of the foreign exchange market, elimination of problems with cash;
  • Development of the system of public services, launching of centers of public services, elimination of unnecessary bureaucracy;
  • As part of tourism development, the introduction of a visa-free regime for 90 countries and a visa-free transit regime for citizens of 48 countries;
  • Strengthening guarantees for the protection of human rights, the eradication of forced labor, including child labor;
  • Introduction of a new system for the consideration of citizens' appeals and the openness of state bodies;
  • Expansion of the media space, strengthening the role of the media in society and decision-making;
  • Raising the issues of gender equality at the level of state policy, in particular, the creation of the Republican Gender Commission;
  • Development of the higher education system: increasing the quota for admission to universities, opening branches of national and foreign universities;
  • Improving the business environment in the Republic, in particular, simplifying the processes of registration and business management;
  • Official recognition of poverty statistics and the formation of an integrated approach to its reduction;
  • Implementation of legal and institutional changes in the fight against corruption;
  • Creation of a new youth support system;
  • Introduction of the procedure for granting citizenship directly to persons permanently residing in Uzbekistan for 15 years;
  • Creation of protective forest plantations on the dry bottom of the Aral Sea. Launching of the UN Trust Fund for Human Security for the Aral Sea region, adoption by the UN General Assembly of a special resolution declaring the Aral Sea region a zone of environmental innovations and technologies.
