Everything You Need to Know about Egypt Fashion Awards 2022

The Egyptian Fashion and Design Council, Mall of Arabia, Marakez, and the British Council Egypt held this week a press conference at Mall of Arabia to announce the first edition of Egypt Fashion Awards.

The participants can apply for four categories: young designers, emerging designers, accessory designers, and jewelry designers.

- Young Designers (graduating students of 2019 or 2020 in the fashion, accessory or jewelry design sector and up to 2 years in the business).

- Emerging Designers (produced commercially available apparel

for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 8 years).

- Accessory Designers (produced commercially available

accessories for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 8 years).

- Jewelry Designers (produced commercially available jewelry for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 8 years).

An advisory board of the international and regional fashion industry members will pre-selecting 5 finalists in each category, who will be unveiled on February 7.

The advisory board members include:

- Diane Pernet, founder ASVOF

- Jamila Halfichi, fashion & lifestyle editor Al Sharq Al Awsat

- Shirene Rifai, founder & organizer of Jordan Fashion Week

- Kegham Djeghalian, art director & Prof. at PCA and IFM

- Susan Sabet, co-founder EFDC, Publisher Pashion magazine

Works by the finalists will be displayed at the Mall of Arabia to allow the public to vote for their favorite designer.

The Egypt Fashion Awards gala will be held at the Mall of Arabia, on February 27.

The finalists of the Young Designer and Emerging Designer categories will showcase pieces of their latest collection on the runway.

The finalists of the Accessory Designers and Jewelry Designers categories will display pieces of their latest collection.

A high-profile jury of fashion industry members and celebrities will select and crown the winners.

The winner of each category will participate in the London Fashion Week in September 2022.

They will firsthand experience and get a solid understanding of an international fashion week and discover the different options of participation and international competition and needs of international buyers to be able to plan successful participation for the future.

Moreover, Mall of Arabia will display the finalists at a popup location, while the Egyptian Fashion and Design Council will offer mentorship and business guidance to the winners.

Titled “The London Fashion Experience” the opportunity was possible by the British Council.

“We believe that the creative industries bring vast economic and social benefits to a country. As well as supporting policymakers and creative leaders, " Cathy Costain, MBE, Head of Arts Programme, British Council, said in a statement.

She highlighted that the council help inpidual creative entrepreneurs to develop their businesses, build relationships with their sectors in the UK, and find their place

on the international stage.

Costain added that the British Council is delighted to be one of the

partners of the Egyptian Fashion Awards 2022.

“Marakez aims to increase opportunities for the next generation of local fashion designers to boost young Egyptian talents and the fashion industry as a whole," noted Nadia Ezz, Marketing Director of Marakez.

She continued: "We aim to be at the forefront of the industry supporting the local fashion ecosystem and encouraging creatives and designers from the next generation,".

"We are proud to host and support this initiative in partnership with the Egyptian Fashion and Design Council and the British Council as the competition winners will be provided a retail space at Mall of Arabia to display their collections," Ezz added.

She encouraged Egyptian designers to participate in the First Official Egyptian fashion Awards 2022.

“The support and promotion of Egypt’s talents is vital to grow the fashion

and textile industry and as the EFDC we are grateful for creating

partnerships with such companies and institutions as Mall of Arabia,

Marakez, and The British Council Egypt who share our vision and goals."
