On Monday, the European Union's Foreign Policy Chief, Josep Borrell, stated that the ongoing tragedy in the Middle East epitomizes a profound moral and political failure of international diplomacy due to the lack of substantial efforts to settle the Israeli-Palestinian dispute.

Addressing the EU Ambassadors' annual conference, Borrell expressed, "This continuing tragedy in the Middle East stands as a testament to a collective moral and political failure of international diplomacy."

He continued, emphasizing the heavy price being paid by Israeli and Palestinian populations due to this diplomatic shortfall and warned that this cost is likely to escalate over time.

Borrell critiqued the absence of true commitment to resolving the issues between Israel and Palestine, saying, "Yes, we have formally committed to a two-state solution, but without a tangible roadmap to get us there."

The top EU diplomat's remarks reflect a candid acknowledgment of the international community’s shortcomings in facilitating a lasting peace agreement in the region and underscore the urgency of renewed efforts towards a two-state solution.
