France, Britain, Italy, and Germany threatened, Monday, to impose sanctions on those who obstruct negotiations between the Libyan parties, according to a joint statement by the 4 European countries.

In their statement, the four European countries said that they are ready to take measures against those who obstruct the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum and other tracks of the Berlin process. They added that these sanctions will be applied to those who continue to plunder government funds and commit human rights violations in the country.

The second round of the LPDF commenced Monday via a virtual platform and chaired by Acting Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Stephanie Williams.

The EU states welcomed the UN-brokered dialogue for achieving peace and stability in Libya. They welcomed the results of the first round of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum which took place in Tunis from 7 to 15 November based on UNSC resolution 2510 (2020) and the conclusions of the Berlin Conference on Libya.

The European countries reiterated a call on the Libyan parties to fully implement the ceasefire agreement. They urged Libyan parties to agree on a mechanism for the fair and transparent use of oil revenues, for the benefit of the Libyan people.
