On Monday, Josep Borrell, the top EU diplomat, said at a news conference that the EU will train 15,000 Ukrainian troops as part of its Military Assistance Mission not only in Poland but also in some other countries of the bloc.

"Not all of them in Poland. It will be several different member states that will provide the basis, not only training, not only material, not only trainees but concrete places in which this training will take place," he noted.

He also specified for the first time the amount of money that the European Union and its member states have provided to Kyiv as military aid since the beginning of the year. He said that the amount exceeded 8 billion euros.

The EU Foreign Affairs Council has officially started the task of training Ukrainian forces. The EU decided to set up the mission on 17 October.

According to the EU foreign service, the mission will provide individual, group, and special training for the Ukrainian armed forces and regional defense.

It also aims to coordinate the efforts of some EU member states that will train Ukrainian forces on a bilateral basis to conduct hostilities against Russia.
