The European Commission has announced a €60 million humanitarian aid package for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in 2025, as part of its response to the country’s escalating humanitarian crisis.

The funding aims to support displaced communities, particularly in Goma and surrounding areas, where recent violence has forced thousands to flee.

The aid package will focus on shelter, clean water, sanitation, food assistance, cash transfers, and emergency education for vulnerable children affected by conflict.

With this latest commitment, EU humanitarian aid to the DRC now exceeds €272 million since early 2023, making the European Union one of the largest donors to the country.

The EU has also been facilitating humanitarian flights to deliver aid workers and supplies to conflict-affected regions.

European Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič reaffirmed the EU’s dedication to aiding the most vulnerable communities despite security challenges.

He emphasized the urgent need to uphold international humanitarian law and protect civilians, particularly in areas near conflict zones.
