EU Parliament President Visits Egypt

The European Parliament President Roberta Metsola will visit Egypt on January 8-9, 2025, according to a statement released by the European Union. 

The visit is set against the backdrop of strengthening EU-Egypt relations, ongoing discussions on EU macro-financial assistance, and the evolving geopolitical situation in the Middle East and neighboring regions.

On January 8, President Metsola will meet with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hanafy El Gebaly, and the President of the Senate, Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Razeq.

These meetings will focus on interparliamentary relations, including preparations for the next EU-Egypt Inter-Parliamentary Meeting in Cairo, as well as discussions on EU financial assistance, migration, and asylum policies.

On January 9, she will hold discussions with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. 

Topics will include the EU-Egypt Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership, macro-financial assistance, human rights, the Middle East Peace Process, the Gaza situation, and developments in Syria.
