In a step intended to enhance cultural and media cooperation between Cairo and Beijing, Egypt’s capital on Tuesday hosted the launch of the “Oriental Exhibition Hall” and the handover of the international version of China’s “National Heritage Moments” program.
The event, held in Cairo, featured a high-level delegation from Shandong Province, reflecting the province’s expanding role in China’s cultural outreach to the Arab world.
Among the officials attending were Lu Lan, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party committee in Shandong, and He Xianchuo, Party secretary and head of the province’s radio and television administration.
Shandong, the birthplace of ancient Chinese philosopher Confucius, has increasingly positioned cultural exchange as part of its external engagement, officials said.
The “National Heritage Moments” program, produced in Shandong, showcases Chinese cultural traditions through modern visual storytelling. Its international edition is expected to be broadcast on Egyptian and regional platforms, widening its reach to Arabic-speaking audiences.
Organisers said the newly opened exhibition hall would serve as a permanent venue for cultural exchange, offering visitors insights into Chinese heritage while highlighting historical parallels between Egyptian and Chinese civilizations.
The launch drew a mix of diplomatic, media and academic figures. The event was chaired by Ma Qiang, vice executive president of the Egypt-China Cultural Exchange Association and editor-in-chief of China Weekly in Egypt.
Attendees also included Zhang Yi, cultural counsellor at the Chinese Embassy and director of the Chinese Cultural Center in Cairo, along with Egyptian media representatives such as Mohamed Ramadan of Nile TV.
Officials from both sides said the initiative reflects a broader push to deepen cooperation in cultural production and media, with plans for further joint projects.
They added that sub-national actors such as Shandong are playing a growing role in China’s cultural diplomacy, complementing central government efforts.
