Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and European Council President António Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen convened today for the first-ever EU-Egypt Summit in Brussels, marking a significant milestone in their relationship.

The leaders adopted a joint statement, reaffirming their Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership (SCP) and shared commitment to long-term stability, peace, security, and prosperity. The summit cemented cooperation across multiple fronts, building on the EUR 7.4 billion support package announced in March 2024.

Key outcomes of the summit and joint statement include:

Economic Cooperation: Reaffirming the commitment to the massive EUR 7.4 billion support package and pledging to strengthen the trade and investment environment, including a focus on the new Macro-Financial Assistance (MFA) and plans to facilitate up to EUR 5 billion in investments through the European Fund for Sustainable Development Plus (EFSD+).

Gaza and Regional Stability: Reaffirming commitment to a lasting peace based on the two-state solution, and underscoring the necessity of safe, rapid, and unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza. The statement also addressed joint efforts regarding instability in Libya, Sudan, the Horn of Africa, and maritime security in the Red Sea.

Migration: Highlighting irregular migration as a key shared concern, the leaders stressed deepening relations to curb migrant flows, supported by EU assistance allocated for migration-related programs.

Rule of Law and Governance: Emphasizing the indispensable role of the rule of law, human rights, and inclusive governance in fostering stability and sustainable development.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atty signed the agreement on behalf of Egypt, signaling a new, elevated chapter in EU-Egypt relations.
