According to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), the European Union donated 5 million euros to help provide life-saving food assistance to 1.6 million people in Burkina Faso who are unable to meet their basic food needs due to conflict, the impact of climate change, and the socio-economic fallout caused by COVID-19.

The contribution, according to the agency, will allow essential aid to those affected in the country, which is beset by strife that has driven many people to escape their homes.

According to the World Food Programme, 2.4 million people in Burkina Faso are currently in need of help, with that number expected to rise to 3.5 million during the lean season, which runs from June to August.
