Egypt continues to stand as a strong advocate for cooperation and mutual understanding, the European Union’s ambassador to Egypt, Angelina Eichhorst, said on Sunday, highlighting the depth and strategic importance of relations between Cairo and Brussels.
Speaking at a reception marking the 76th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, Europe Day, the ambassador said Egypt has consistently played a constructive role in promoting dialogue and regional stability.
Eichhorst emphasized that relations between Egypt and the European Union extend far beyond trade and economics, encompassing shared cultural, historical, and social ties.
She pointed to expanding cooperation in key sectors including energy, water, transport, agriculture, climate change, innovation, manufacturing, migration, and digital transformation.
The EU ambassador also highlighted escalating regional and global tensions, citing conflicts in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, Lebanon, Iran, and Armenia.
She stressed that these crises are not distant headlines but real human tragedies, underscoring the need for renewed commitment to diplomacy and multilateral cooperation.
Eichhorst reiterated the European Union’s alignment with Egypt’s long-standing position that there can be no military solution to ongoing regional conflicts.
She called for genuine political solutions based on international law and humanitarian principles, anchored in the core pillars of the United Nations system: peace and security, development, and human rights.
The ambassador also emphasized the importance of strengthening multilateral cooperation frameworks, including engagement through the Union for the Mediterranean, the New Pact for the Mediterranean, and coordination with regional organizations such as the Arab League and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
