Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed issued a statement on Wednesday calling on the international community not to interfere in the internal affairs of Ethiopia, in the light of the international calls for bloodshed in the Tigray region.

In a strong message to the international community, the Ethiopian Prime Minister said that Ethiopia is able to deal with its own internal affairs, rejecting any external interference, hours after the United Nations demanded an end to the conflict in Tigray.

Ethiopia “appreciates the well-meaning concerns of our friends,” the statement from Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s office said, adding: “we reject any interference in our internal affairs.”

“The international community should stand by until the government of Ethiopia submits its requests for assistance to the community of nations,” the statement noted. “We respectfully urge the international community to refrain from any unwelcome and unlawful acts of interference.”
