French presidential candidate Eric Zemmour announced that the United States had "failed a project to form a confederation" between Europe and Russia.

In an interview with Le Point magazine, Zemmour said, "After the fall of communism, France's President Francois Mitterrand proposed a European confederation of which Russia was supposed to be a part, but the Americans thwarted this project."

Zemmour added that former French President Jacques Chirac "did not succeed" in his work to promote integration between Russia and European structures, and blamed Zemmour on Washington for that as well.

He continued: "Every time, the United States and some European countries preferred the Atlantic Alliance, and not the formation of an alliance extending from the Atlantic to the Urals, as Charles de Gaulle called."

It is noteworthy that the presidential elections in France will be held tomorrow, Sunday.
