On Tuesday, Turkish President Erdogan expressed his hopes to build more positive relations with neighboring Greece. His statement came in a meeting with the ambassadors of the EU member states.

He underscored, "We believe that the exploratory talks with Greece ... will be the harbinger of a new era."

In the same context, the Turkish president urged Greece to stop raising the tension with Turkey asserting the necessity of making the Mediterranean a channel of communication not a scene of a dispute.

On Monday, Turkey invited Greece to resume the cooled exploratory talks on January 25 in Istanbul. The talks will focus on discussing the continued dispute over the sea borders between Athens and Ankara.

The Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that he hoped the talks would pick up from where they left off in March 2016, when the last round broke down according to Ekathimerini news agency.

He added that Athens looks forward to a fertile relationship with Ankara.

The earliest rounds of talks between both countries took place between 2002-2016 before the talks were disturbed by the rising tensions between Turkey and Greece.
