Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez etched his name into FIFA World Cup history by scoring the 3,000th goal in the tournament's history during his side's dramatic Round of 16 victory over Egypt at the 2026 World Cup.

Fernandez's strike not only helped Argentina complete a remarkable comeback and secure a place in the quarterfinals, but also marked a historic milestone in the history of football's biggest international competition.

The first goal ever scored at a FIFA World Cup came in the inaugural 1930 tournament, when France's Lucien Laurent found the net against Mexico.

The tournament's 1,000th goal was scored by Dutch forward Rob Rensenbrink from the penalty spot during the 1978 World Cup in Argentina, while Sweden's Marcus Allback netted the 2,000th goal in World Cup history during the 2006 edition in Germany against England.

Fernandez now joins that exclusive list of players whose names are permanently linked to landmark moments in World Cup history, adding another memorable chapter to Argentina's pursuit of a fourth world title.
