English Premier League clubs are exploring the possibility of closing the summer transfer window on August 14, just two days before the start of the 2025-2026 season.
According to the Daily Telegraph, this proposal is set to be discussed at the Premier League meeting next Thursday, with some clubs seeking to return to the system that was in place in 2018 and 2019 before it was later abandoned.
To pass the decision, it would require the support of 14 out of 20 clubs, but sources suggest that support may be weak, which could lead to the proposal being withdrawn before a vote.
Supporters of the idea argue that closing the transfer window earlier would provide coaches with greater stability before the start of the season.
However, there are concerns that this decision could negatively affect English clubs' ability to negotiate player sales and purchases, especially as European leagues and the Saudi Pro League continue to make transfers after that date.
The Premier League for the 2025-2026 season is scheduled to begin on August 16, meaning that closing the transfer window beforehand could help clubs finalize their squads early, but it may leave them in a weak position compared to competitors in the transfer market.
