England's stellar women's football team, the Lionesses, have clinched their berth in the Women's World Cup semi-finals with a commendable 2-1 victory over Colombia.

Though Colombia initiated the lead, marking the scoreboard with Leicy Santos's impressive 44th-minute shot against Mary Earps, England's resilient spirit shone through. Lauren Hemp swiftly turned the tides by leveling the score close to halftime, capitalizing on an oversight by Colombian goalie Catalina Perez.

However, the spotlight was stolen by England's Alessia Russo. At 63 minutes, Russo impeccably angled the ball into the net's bottom left corner from the penalty zone, ensuring England's ascent in the competition.

Post this exhilarating moment, Colombian goalie Perez, after sustaining an injury, handed over her gloves to substitute Natalia Giraldo.

The anticipation is palpable as the Lionesses gear up to challenge co-hosts Australia on 16th August, slated for an 11am kick-off (UK time). Expressing her exhilaration post-match, Russo shared with ITV her eagerness to showcase their prowess before their home audience, highlighting their unwavering commitment to hard work.

Despite being positioned 25th, Colombia demonstrated formidable game spirit. Their previous defeat of the world's second-ranking team, Germany, in the group stage by a similar 2-1 margin had already created ripples in the tournament.

Meanwhile, the Lionesses showcased a tactical reshuffle, with Ella Toone filling the void left by the absent Lauren James, who faced suspension owing to a red card incident in their clash against Nigeria.
