Elwy Reacts to Her Afghani Lookalike

Renowned actress, Laila Elwy responded to the circulating picture of her doppelgänger to whom she bore an uncanny resemblance.

Elwy went viral on the internet on Monday after Afghanistan woman was discovered on the platform to be the spitting image of the renowned actress in the 1985 movie “E’dam Mayet” (Execution of a Dead Man).

Many twitterers launched hashtag # Laila_Elwy, affirming that the woman’s image is the Afghan version of the actress, due to the great similarity they shared.

Elwy shared a picture on her Instagram stories of herself along with a picture of her doppelgänger, and captioned: "Subhan Allah - Yekhlaq men el shaba arbe’in" – which means “Glory to Allah - God creates forty people who look the same” in English.

Elwy’s latest artistic work is movie “The Secret History Of Kawthar”.

It also stars Zina, Mohsen Mohieldin, Abdul Rahim Hassan, Ahmed Hatem, Firas Saeed, Enas Kamel, and others.

The movie is written and directed by Mohamed Amin.

It is worth mentioning that Elwy, born on January 4, 1962, is an Egyptian actress. She studied at French schools and graduated in 1991 from the faculty of commerce.

The actress made her acting debut at a young age in children programming “Abla Fadeela” on the Radio and “Mama Samiha” on the television.

Elwy took small roles in a movie as a child. Late actor, Nour El-Sherif noticed her talents on stage.

Among the stage productions are “al-Brenseesa” (The Princess), “Gamilla wa Wahshayn” (Two Beasts and a Beauty), “Baklarious fee Hokm al-Shab” (A Degree in Governing the People)، “8 Sittat” (8 Women), and “Sahlab”.

Elwy also took part in the television series “Dimoo’ Fawq al-Haqiqa” (Tears Over the Truth) in her first television role as a mature actress.

Among her television appearances are “al-‘Aaila” (The Family), “al-Tawaam” (The Twins), “’Atfet Khoukha”, “Teyoor al-Sayf” (Birds of Summer), “Akho al-Bannat” (His sisters), “Ta’aaly Nahlam bi Bokra” (Let’s Dream of Tomorrow), and “Alf Leyla wa Leyla”(One Thousand and One Nights).

Elwy has received numerous film awards and has worked as a producer in movie “Ya Mihalabiya ya”.

She could be considered among the most intelligent actresses in her generation and her performances were particularly memorable in “al-Muzniboon” (The Guilty) and “Kharag wa lam Ya’od” (He Left but did not Return).
