Turkish Besiktas have completed on Friday the signing of Egyptian midfielder Mohamed El-Neny from Arsenal.

"Besiktas reached an agreement with the Gunners to complete El-Nney's deal on a season-long loan, including an option to make the transfer permanent," the Turkish club said in a statement on Saturday.

Besiktas added that the 27-year-old would help the Turkish club during the current season.

Besiktas’ spokesperson Altog Atalay revealed on Friday that the Egyptian player would land in Istanbul to complete the transfer.

“We reached an agreement with Arsenal to sign El-Neny on a one-year loan, including an option to make the transfer permanent,” he added.

“If Besiktas’ officials are interested in buying the player, they may pay €18 million,” the spokesperson explained.

Elneny, who joined Arsenal back in 2016 coming from FC Basel in a deal worth up to £5 million, failed to book his place in the Gunners’ starting eleven, especially since the arrival of new coach Unai Emery.

Besiktas played only two games in the Turkish league, as they managed to secure the victory in one and lose the other. Besiktas were pooled in Group K in the Europa League, alongside Braga, Wolves, and Slovan Bratislava.

It is worth mentioning that El-Neny participated with the Pharaohs in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, but Egypt suffered a shock defeat from South Africa in the last 16 to exit the tournament.

He also led his national team to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, held in Russia, where he participated with Egypt in their three clashes in the group stage.
