The Egyptian national team head coach Hossam El Badry named his 23-man squad for Botswana's friendly on October 14. El Badry was appointed as new coach succeeding the former coach Javier Aguirre, who was sacked after the Pharaohs’ shocking exit from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nation, held in Egypt.
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah was ruled out of the Pharaohs' squad to get some rest as he suffered from muscle fatigue.
The squad witnessed the return of Egypt's captain Ahmed Fathy, alongside Zamalek's goalkeeper Mohamed Awad, and Al Ahly midfielder Hussein El Shahat.

El Badry also called up four foreign-based players; Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet (Aston Villa), Mohamed El Neny (Besiktas), Ahmed Hassan Koka ( Braga), and Ahmed Hegazy( West Bromwich).
He also named some new players, who joined the national team for the first time, such as Zamalek's left-wing Abdallah Gomaa, Al Ahly's left-wing Ayman Ashraf and Tala'ea El Gaish's keeper Mohamed Bassam, According to the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) official Facebook page.
