Egypt’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Osama Abdel Khalek, voiced Egypt’s firm rejection of a proposal to relocate Palestinians to what is being called a “humanitarian city” in southern Gaza, describing it as unacceptable.
Speaking at a UN Security Council session on the situation in Gaza, Abdel Khalek stressed that the Palestinian people have been enduring relentless attacks for nearly a year and a half.
He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to continuing its mediation efforts aimed at achieving an immediate and lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
“Egypt calls on the Security Council to adopt a resolution that compels Israel to halt its aggression against Gaza,” Abdel Khalek said.
He firmly opposed any plans involving the displacement of Palestinians from their land, specifically rejecting the idea of relocating them to a so-called humanitarian zone in the southern part of the besieged enclave.
Abdel Khalek’s comments come amid growing international concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and increased calls for an end to the violence.
