Egypt’s U-20 national team has officially bowed out of the FIFA U-20 World Cup currently taking place in Chile, failing to advance to the Round of 16.
Despite a glimmer of hope to qualify as one of the best third-placed teams, the group stage results sealed their early exit.
The fifth round of matches closed the door on Egypt’s qualification chances.
Morocco’s loss to Mexico, Spain’s victory over Brazil, Australia’s 3-0 win against Cuba, France defeating New Caledonia, and South Africa’s win over the United States ensured Egypt could not progress.
Meanwhile, South Korea and Spain have secured spots as the best third-placed teams so far, with Australia and France awaiting the final results from Group F.
Egypt finished third in Group A with 3 points, trailing hosts Chile on fair-play criteria after tying on all other metrics.
