Egypt’s Tourism Minister Heads 49th Session of Regional Committee for the Middle East

On Thursday, Ahmed Issa, the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, presided over the meeting of the 49th session of the Regional Committee for the Middle East, which is being hosted by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan at the Dead Sea.

The meeting was in the presence of Zurab Polilikashvili, the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization, Makram Al-Qaisi, Jordan’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, and a number of ministers and heads of tourism authorities in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen, and Syria.

Issa began his speech during the meeting by expressing his happiness for the meeting with the attendees at the outset of the 49th session of the Regional Committee for the Middle East of the World Tourism Organization,

He expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Al-Qaisi for the warm reception, good organization and hosting.

The minister also praised the efforts made by the organization's secretariat to prepare for the committee under the leadership of the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization, stressing the importance that Egypt attaches to supporting the work of the regional committee for the Middle East since its establishment in 1975.

Issa explained that the meeting comes at a stage during which the tourism industry at the global and regional levels is witnessing promising signs of recovery after the exceptional circumstances that afflicted the industry in connection with the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, referring to the strong performance witnessed by the Middle East region during the past months.

As the Middle East region was the strongest in recovery among all countries in the world, and it succeeded in exceeding pre-pandemic numbers in the first quarter of this year by up to 15%, according to reports issued by the World Tourism Organization, according to the Egyptian minister.
