Egypt's Sports Min. Refers Wrestling Federation to Prosecution over Player's Escape in Tunisia

The Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi confirmed the referral of the Wrestling Federation to the Public Prosecution regarding the federation’s responsibility of the circumstances that led to the escape of the player "Ahmed Bagdouda" from the camp mission in Tunisia, during his participation in the activities of the African Championship.

The minister indicated that a ministerial committee was formed to discuss the crisis the player escape.

Sobhi explained - in a statement Friday - that this phenomenon was present previously, but it has decreased a lot, according to a studied approach and full awareness of the players with the provision of sponsorship contracts for the champions.

The Minister of Sports thanked President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for his support for all Egyptian athletes, his constant support for Egyptian sports, and the constant motivation of champions.

Sobhi said, addressing the sports champions: "You are appreciated, and your sponsorship programs are proceeding in a professional, scientific and sustainable manner. My message to all our champion players at the African, international and Olympic levels is that we are with you all."

He added, "The national project for youth, talent, and the Olympic champion is a sustainable and future project that we developed in coordination with administrative oversight, education, and sports federations."

The minister revealed that there is support for planning programs and federations’ budgets, as a budget of 1.1 billion pounds has been approved to prepare for the Paris Olympics from 2021-2024, noting that the year 2022 witnessed over 900 sports missions abroad.

Mahmoud El-Sayed, Secretary General of the Egyptian Wrestling Federation, revealed that the Egyptian wrestler traveled on the same day of his disapperance to France.
