Egypt’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced a new schedule for Egyptian Premier League matches. All games will now begin in the early afternoon, aligning with the country's ongoing efforts to manage its energy resources more effectively.

The directive, addressed to the Egyptian Football Association, mandates that during the winter months, matches will start at 3 PM, shifting to 4 PM in summer to capitalize on natural daylight and minimize the use of artificial lighting. This decision is part of a broader initiative spearheaded by Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, following detailed monitoring and discussions within the Council of Ministers.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports articulated its goal in a recent correspondence: “In the spirit of our continuous commitment to sustainable practices, we are adjusting the Premier League schedules to optimize energy usage across our sports facilities.” This policy is expected to significantly reduce the energy load during peak hours, offering a practical solution to the country's power challenges.

The Egyptian Football Association has confirmed its commitment to this schedule adjustment, ensuring that the transition will be smooth for teams, fans, and broadcasters alike. “Aligning match times with daylight hours will not only help in conserving energy but also demonstrates our proactive approach in integrating sustainability into sports,” commented a spokesperson from the Ministry.
