Egypt’s population inside the country officially reached 109 million on Saturday, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics.
The agency stated that the milestone was recorded on May 9, 2026, based on the national population clock linked to birth and death registration databases maintained by the Ministry of Health and Population.
Egypt’s population had previously reached 108 million on August 16, 2025, meaning the country added one million people in just 267 days — equivalent to around eight months and 27 days.
The latest figures indicate a faster rate of population growth compared with the previous million increase, which took 287 days, while the earlier million increase required 268 days.
According to official statistics, the acceleration is linked to a rise in average daily births during the current period, which reached approximately 5,439 births per day, compared with 5,165 births during the previous population increase.
At the same time, the average number of daily deaths rose slightly to 1,694, compared with 1,681 during the previous period.
The statistics agency said Egypt recorded around 1.452 million births between August 16, 2025, and May 9, 2026.
This translates to an average of:
5,439 births per day
227 births every hour
3.8 births every minute
One birth approximately every 15.9 seconds
