Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources took part in the official opening of the Africa Down Under (ADU) Mining and Energy Conference in Perth, Australia, a major event that serves as the leading platform for trade and investment relations in the mining sector between the two continents.
According to a statement released by the Ministry on Wednesday, the conference is considered the largest African mining event held outside the continent since its inception in 2003. This year’s edition brought together a significant number of African mining ministers alongside senior Australian officials, reflecting growing interest in cross-continental cooperation in the energy and mineral industries.
Egypt’s participation is aimed at showcasing the country’s recent reforms in the mining sector, as well as highlighting investment opportunities designed to attract foreign capital and establish strategic partnerships with Australian companies. The Minister is expected to serve as a keynote speaker in a panel discussion tomorrow, where he will outline Egypt’s efforts to create a favorable investment climate and promote transparency and competitiveness in the mining industry.
On the sidelines of the event, the Minister will also hold bilateral meetings with fellow ministers, key stakeholders, and CEOs of leading Australian companies to explore potential areas of cooperation in both mining and energy.
Following the inauguration, the Minister toured the exhibition area accompanied by Geologist Yasser Ramadan, Chairman of the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority. The exhibition features a strong presence of mining companies and technology service providers from across the globe, particularly those offering advanced digital and exploration solutions.
During the tour, the Minister received a presentation from Xcalibur Smart Mapping, a Spanish company specializing in airborne geophysics, mapping, and resource evaluation — a timely engagement, as Egypt is preparing to launch a new airborne survey campaign to explore untapped mining opportunities.
He also visited the booth of Resource Minerals International Ltd, an Australian company focused on battery mineral exploration using sustainable operational practices. The Minister was briefed on the company’s upcoming projects and its approach to responsible mining.
