On Monday, Dr. Ali Abdel Aal, the Speaker of the Egyptian Parliament, instructed the General Secretariat to take all precautionary and preventive measures over coronavirus, especially ahead of the parliament's plenary session scheduled to be held on April 29 to discuss a number of important issues.
Abdel Aal stressed the importance of abiding by the social distancing rules in order to curb the deadly virus and maintain the safety of MPs and all other workers.
The Parliament's General Secretariat has put some guidelines, first of which is to keep reasonable distances among the MPs inside the parliament main hall and all meeting rooms to provide a safe workplace for all lawmakers and ensure that no infection is transmitted.
On his part, Counselor Mahmoud Fawzi, the Secretary-General, stated that the general committee meetings will be held in Al-Shura Hall due to the big number of its members that reach 49 members, taking into account following safe distances.
It is noteworthy that a set of key topics will be discussed during the coming plenary session, in light of the policy of reducing the number of sessions to avert the spread of COVID-19.
A number of draft laws will figure high during the session, topped by a bill on the partial real estate tax exemption, the speaker said, noting that the parliament is awaiting the proposed amendments set to be submitted as regards the infectious diseases law.
Abdel Aal pointed to the 20-million-pound donation of the lawmakers, most of which was dedicated to fighting the novel coronavirus, securing medical equipment and offering support to the non-standard workers.
He refuted reports about a proposed law on imposing mandatory donations to Tahya Misr (Long Live Egypt) Fund, affirming that the house didn't receive any bill in this regard from the government or lawmakers.
