Egypt’s monthly inflation rate rose by 1.2% in April 2026 compared to March, according to a report presented during the weekly cabinet meeting, reflecting continued price pressures across select consumer categories.

The update was delivered by Planning and Economic Development Minister Ahmed Rostom before the Egyptian Cabinet, outlining the latest trends in consumer prices.

Despite the monthly increase, annual inflation showed a slight improvement, easing to 13.4% in April from 13.5% in March, signaling marginal stabilization in the broader price environment.

The report attributed the monthly rise to increases in certain commodity groups, while highlighting notable declines in others. Prices for meat and poultry fell by 6.4%, while dairy, cheese, and eggs dropped by 0.3%. Personal goods also recorded a slight decline of 0.1%, helping to partially offset upward pressures elsewhere.

Officials indicated that the mixed movement in prices reflects ongoing fluctuations in supply and demand dynamics, as well as the impact of policy measures aimed at containing inflation.
