Egypt’s forward Ahmed Hassan "Kouka" is set to be out of action due to an ankle injury he incurred during Uganda’s game, the national team doctor Mohamed Abou El-Ela confirmed on Monday.

The Sporting Braga forward was forced off the field at the 25 minute into the game after being accidentally kicked by a Ugandan player.

The doctor added that the 26-year-old player underwent medical scans that confirm that he will be kept out between five to seven days due to the injury.

This means that Kouka will miss Egypt’s upcoming game in the AFCON tournament, but will be available starting from the quarter-finals.

He added that the player’s treatment program has already started.

It is noteworthy that Zamalek’s goalkeeper Mahmoud Gennish would not be among the national team’s members after he suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during Friday’s training.

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) said on its official page on Twitter that scans proved that Gennesh suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon

Egypt defeated Uganda 2-0 on Sunday; the goals were scored by Mohamed Salah, and Ahmed Elmohamady. As a result, the Pharaohs are now leading Group A with 3 victories.

Despite this defeat, Cranes qualified for the last 16 after DR Congo earned a 4-0 victory over Zimbabwe. This win put Cranes in the second spot with four points.

The round of 16 is set to kick-off on Saturday, July 6, with Egypt facing a third-placed team from Group C, D or E.

It is worth mentioning that Egypt, who were picked in Group A alongside Uganda, DR Congo, and Zimbabwe, qualified for the last 16 after pulling off three consecutive victories over Warriors and Leopards and Cranes.

DR Congo gave kept their qualification chances to the last 16 alive when they demolished Zimbabwe with 4 clean goals. Congo lost their first two games in Egypt both with two goals each, but tried to compensate in the match.
